2008-2009 Rule Changes

As we approach the start of the 2008/09 season. I want to put together a reference for all of the teams, officials, and fans outlining the new equipment measurements that ALL goaltenders in the ACHA must adhere to. Keep in mind that these equipment specs were approved by the NCAA in 2006 and have been approved by the ACHA in our National Meeting this spring in Naples, FL. In summary ALL goaltenders MUST have equipment that meets the new size requirements. There is no "grandfathering" of old equipment because a player is in his/her last season or for any other reason.

Below is a summary of the new and modified rule changes

  • No icing line change. The team that commits the icing infraction is not allowed to perform a line change.
  • No thigh-boards are allowed for the goaltender.
  • All players are required to have HECC-Approved helmets and face-masks.
  • All face-offs are performed on one of the 9 face-off dots on the ice.
  • Diving is now a penalty.
  • Embellishment is now a penalty.
